Wide opening bi-folds that turn the back of the house into an open aspect, measured and fitted by us.
Bi-folds are priced by the metre and by the number of leaves, so the opening you have decides most of the cost before anything else is chosen. A three leaf set into an existing opening is a very different job to a five leaf run that needs the wall opening up and a lintel putting in. The frame material matters too. Aluminium holds slimmer sightlines over a wide span, uPVC comes in cheaper on smaller openings.
We survey the opening free of charge, check what is holding the wall up above it, and give you a written price covering the doors, the delivery, the fitting, the threshold and the clear up. If the job needs structural work before the doors can go in, we tell you at the survey so you can plan it, rather than finding out on fitting day.
Every extra leaf adds glass, hinges and running gear. A wider set also needs a heavier track, which is where the cost climbs.
Aluminium takes bigger spans with thinner frames, so you see more glass. uPVC is the better value choice on modest openings.
A low threshold looks better and trips no one, but it needs the floor levels and the drainage to work. We check that at the survey.
If you want wider than what is there now, that is structural work with a lintel. It is a real cost and we will not pretend otherwise.
Bi-folds are a bigger job than a straight window swap, so the running order matters. This is how we do it.
We measure the opening, check the head above it, look at the floor levels for the threshold and talk through leaf configuration. Which way the doors stack and where the traffic door sits changes how you use the room, so it is worth getting right.
One price covering the doors, the track, the threshold, delivery, fitting and taking the old unit away. Any structural work is listed separately so you can see exactly what is what.
Bi-folds are made to your measurements, so there is a lead time. We confirm it in writing and ring you the moment the set arrives with us. Delivery is free.
The frame is fixed and packed, the leaves are hung and then the whole run is adjusted so it folds and locks smoothly. We show you how to work it before we leave and take the old doors away.
In aluminium, a good deal wider than most people expect, because the frames carry the load on slimmer sections. The practical limit is usually what the wall above can take rather than the doors. We check the lintel at the survey and tell you what is realistic for your opening.
Whichever keeps the stack out of your way. If you have a patio table or a path along one side, folding the other way makes the space usable. We talk it through at the survey because it is very hard to change afterwards.
A modern set with thermally broken frames and good sealed units is nothing like the old patio doors people remember. Where heat is lost is at the threshold and the perimeter seal, which is why we spend the time packing and sealing the frame properly rather than rushing it.
Usually yes, and it keeps the cost down because there is no structural work. A three leaf set drops into a standard patio opening comfortably. We confirm at the survey once the opening is measured.
Ten years on the whole set, including the frames, the sealed units and the running gear. On a bi-fold the hinges and rollers do the work, so hardware cover is the part that actually matters.
